How to get your first 100 users on (or before) launch day
Most people treat “first 100 users” as a launch-day scramble.
They build for months, announce on X, post in a few Discords, and hope the product is good enough to convert.
It rarely works.
The people who actually hit 100 users on launch day (or before) did the hard work earlier: they understood exactly who they were talking to, what problem those people felt, and how to describe the solution in language that made it click.
Three things you need locked in before you hit publish:
1. Your ICP is not “anyone who might use this.”
It’s a specific person with a specific pain.
If you can’t name the job title, the situation they’re in, and the frustration they repeat to themselves, you don’t have an ICP yet. You have a vague hope.
2. The problem has to be felt, not just logical.
People don’t buy solutions to problems they only understand intellectually. They buy relief from something that is currently annoying, expensive, embarrassing, or blocking them.
Talk to 10–15 people in that group. Listen for the exact words they use. Those words become your positioning.
3. Positioning is how you make the solution feel obvious and desirable.
Same product, different framing = completely different conversion.
“AI writing tool” is weak.
“I built this so you stop rewriting the same client emails every week” is stronger.
The second one is positioned around a concrete pain the ICP already feels.
If you get those three right, distribution becomes much easier. You’re no longer shouting into the void. You’re talking to people who already want what you made — they just needed to hear it described the right way.
Launch day then stops being a lottery.
It becomes the moment you put a clear offer in front of people who already understand the problem and recognize the solution.
That’s how you get the first 100 without needing a miracle.
Do the positioning work first.
The users follow.
